Keyboard

Keyboard, I am not talking about on which I am striking my fingers right now while writing this blog :). This is electronic musical instrument. Keyboard just look like piano (black and white keys) but when I purchased my first keyboard this year I thought keyboard and piano are same but while I did research I got to know that piano and keyboard both are different musical instruments.

So what is difference between Keyboard and Piano?

Keyboard

  • In true musical terminology, an Electronic keyboard is an synthesizer equipped with built-in power amplifier and small loudspeakers.
  • The white and black piano-style keys which the player presses, thus connecting the switches, which triggers the electronic sensors to generate sound. Most keyboards use a keyboard matrix circuit to reduce the amount of wiring that is needed.
  • Electronic keyboards are capable of recreating a wide range of instrument sounds (Grand piano, electric piano, Hammond organ, pipe organ, violin, Guitar, Flute, Drums, etc..) with digital effects.

Piano

  • A Piano works by pressing down on a key and by making a small hammer shoot up and strike the corresponding strings from beneath.
  • When you release the key, the hammer and the damper fall back down again.

Piano are in-general costly while comparing them with the keyboard. Piano are large and bulky in size and less portable.

Piano Brands: Bosendorfer, Bechstein, Chickering, Steinway & Sons, Roland

Keyboard Brands: Roland, Yamaha, Casio & Korg.

Later on in this blog we will discuss about the purchasing guide. How did I purchase my first Keyboard?

I don’t possess Piano but I did research and produce a simple guide on that as well later in the blog so stay tuned.
