Harmonium is one of the oldest musical instrument in Indian music but if you have this misconception that origin of Harmonium is India then unfortunately that is not correct, it did come from Europe. We have seen Harmonium used by musicians in Kirtans, Bhajans and Folk music, no? The sound it produce is so soothing and melodious that it some-how connect us to God.

Harmoniums are still very prominently used and important part of Indian Music Gharanas for doing Riyaz (practice). This is widely used to improve singing techniques playing harmonium along with singing.

Harmoniums are classified based on the build quality. This instrument is also manufactured by local manufacturers within India and we do have good export market of this product. We have different-different quality of harmoniums locally available but we don’t have one or two major players. Lot of branding rebranding happen in this space.

We mostly hear Delhi Based and Kolkata Based harmoniums, there are harmonium workshops/factories in Punjab as well and hence I said branding, re-branding and labelling happen. Kolkata based harmoniums are happen to be costly then Delhi based as build quality is better in Kolkata based harmoniums.
