A Basic lesson on Guitar: Part 1
Basic overview of Guitar: There are many wired/string Indian instruments but guitar is fundamentally a western instrument. In the below raw picture of guitar we have illustrated various elements of guitar. Like our body has number of body parts similarly guitar also has its parts and nomenclature is quiet similar.
Head stock is like head of guitar (top part) then we have Tuning Pegs or Machine heads (used to tune the guitar by tightening or loosening of the strings). Guitar also has neck (this is also called fret board) and those individual partition on the neck (marked as 1,2,3,4,5,6… in the below pic) are called frets Fret 1, Fret 2, Fret 3 so on so forth. Then we have body of the guitar (Oval or Round Shaped body which is shallow inside having one hole called sound hole).
Guitar strings are tied at one end from saddle or bridge strings running through the fret board and another end is tightened in the tuning pegs (screws like structure visible in the pic)
Finally there is one heart shaped plastic body thing (as shown above in the picture) that is called pick and guitar player use this and strike with it on the strings and sound is produced through the sound hole. Right hander use right hand to strike on the strings (use pick) and another hand used for pressing the strings on the individual frets on the fret board (this produce different sound while pressing fingers on different frets).
Guitar has 6 strings and they are named (E A D G B E):
Below is zoom-in on the guitar strings. Starting from top 6th string is called E and later 5th, 4th and so on till string no. 1 which is first from the down and again called E.
I have borrowed a quick tip from somewhere to remember starting from top (Eddy Ate Dynamite Good Bye Eddy) ==> E A D G B E. You can create your own acronyms.
Happy learning soon we will deep-dive and understand Notes, Chords and Scales in detail. Don’t want to overwhelm you now. Keep revising and until you don’t buy a guitar at-least go through the pics of guitar circulating all over the internet to understand the basics which will eventually help you to decide which guitar to purchase (any way we will also have blogs on the guitar purchase guide as promised)
