Indian Music: Colored Cinema and Evolving Era (1970-1985)

We have divided complete music evolution in 4 eras as discussed in the previous posts, we already gone through the golden era in Indian Hindi Music (1950-1970) in the last post. In this post we will discuss more on the Evolving Era (1970-1985). In this era we had seen that new technology advancements and with Fuji films quality of cinema was at different level. More no. of equipment were used in music production and as well in film making.

Couple of major events during this period were India Pakistan War in 1971 (India defeated Pakistan in war and formation of Bangladesh). 1975 political unrest resulted in Emergency in India and finally 1984 Operation Blue Start to crush Khalistan militants and then assassination of Indira Gandhi by her own Sikh body-guard post that anti Sikh riots in Delhi and even in entire nation. Great Indian singer Kishore Kumar was banned  (Radio and Doordarshan) during the period of emergency because congress wanted him to convey Govt. schemes messages on All India Radio in the form of songs in his voice for which he denied and hence banned.

Until 1970 (between 1950-1970) with green evolution food problem was solved to some extent. In Nehru’s leadership measures were already taken for the betterment of farmers agriculture productivity increased which resulted in good output. India was in this period become self sufficient to feed it’s population. People specially youth were truly enjoying the freedom and hence romantic movies and songs peaked.

Romantic movies trend started in this era and with this we had lot of love songs produced in this period again below list is not exhaustive.
